National Commemoration of flight MH17 disaster

The commemoration of the flight MH17 disaster will take place on Monday 10 November at the RAI in Amsterdam. The commemoration is accessible by invitation only. The persons invited are the surviving relatives of the victims and persons involved in the air crash. The National Commemoration is a mark of sympathy for the victims' next of kin and an expression of respect for all victims.

The commemoration offers the next of kin the opportunity to commemorate their loved ones together with people in the same situation. The programme for the event has been prepared in close consultation with the victims' next of kin. During the commemorative ceremony, 30 surviving relatives will state the names of all 298 victims. Four surviving relatives will personally address the gathering or recite a poem Prime Minister Mark Rutte will speak on behalf of the government. Furthermore, there will be a minute of silence.

The musical accompaniment of the commemoration is performed by the Dutch Radio Filharmonisch Orkest, the Groot Omroepkoor, and the Nationaal Kinderkoor. Marco Borsato, Lenette van Dongen, Douwe Bob, and Glennis Grace will also make musical contributions. Maartje van Weegen will preside at the event.

The commemoration will be attended by His Majesty King Willem-Alexander and Her Majesty Queen Máxima. Royal Highnesses Princess Beatrix and Princess Margriet of the Netherlands and Prof. Mr. Pieter van Vollenhoven will also attend the commemoration. In addition, most involved members of the Cabinet, members of the parliament, foreign ambassadors, the mayors of the municipalities of the victims, and other guests will be present.

The official programme will commence at 13:00 o'clock and end around 14:30 o'clock. It will be followed by an informal gathering until 16:30 o'clock. The NOS will broadcast the commemoration directly on the radio and television.
