Japan women skating team defeats the Netherlands |
![]() |
The Dutch womens team seized next to the gold medal on the team pursuit. Ireen Wüst, Marrit Leenstra and Antoinette de Jong had to acknowledge their superior in Japan, which had an Olympic record and a world record on lanes in the Netherlands. The final was unusually exciting. After the first two laps, the Orange trio was about two tenths behind, but halfway through the race the Netherlands took a gap of half a second. In the final round, Japan made a better final sprint. Miho Takagi, Nana Takagi and Ayano Sato finished 1.58 for the Netherlands, which despite a Dutch record, has to settle for silver. NHK Paris needs to know what the reactions are in the Dutch media.
