Although insiders say that the situation in the Netherlands is not like it is in Mexico, it is dealing with a parallel industry throughwhich hundreds of millions of drug money pass. A police represenative stated that the Dutch police is not totally powerless in this problem, but much more needs to be done. The liquidation of the brother of a crown witness of a large court case against suspects of the liquidations, his lawyer and lately of his confidant – a famous Dutch crime journalist - puts everyone on edge again. In recent years, the amount of cocaine intercepted in the ports of Rotterdam and Antwerp has doubled. Tonnes of cocaine are seized these days.
Besides this The Netherlands is Europe’s main producer of synthetic drugs. All the Ecstasy, the MDMA, the Amphetamines and met-amphetamines are mostly synthesized in Brabant, a southern province of the Netherlands, generating high profits after the substances are exported worldwide. Apart from this the synthetic drugs production causes a huge and scary pollution in the countryside due to the waste-dumping, since the synthesis of all these drugs implies massive chemical waste production which has to be hidden by the traffickers.
